ABOUT THE ARTIST . . .
Don’s life long passion for creating works of art from the combination of iron, fire and manipulation of a hammer became a reality many years ago. He made the decision to stop ‘dreaming’ and to devote all of his time and energy into achieving it, hence the birth of ‘A Touch of the Past’. The company’s first year he and his wife applied to Arts and Crafts shows in their local area and have been expanding their adventures ever since. They have participated in juried shows in New York, Connecticut, Minnesota, Kansas, Omaha, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, Michigan, New Jersey, Vermont, Tennessee, Ohio and of course their home state of Pennsylvania.
Although having a natural talent and being self-taught, he is a member of the Artist Blacksmiths Association of North America (ABANA) and has attended many of their international conferences since 1995 to learn techniques from renowned artists. He is also a member of the American Bladesmith Society (ABS). Of course to him, leisure time is perusing his collection of blacksmithing and bladesmithing books.
For custom orders he brainstorms with customers and then creates an original design to their liking. When at home you will find him at least six days a week forging out mostly tables, benches and stools along with whatever a customer needs. Other than that you will find he and his wife participating at many unique and upscale art and craft shows.
Donald and Evelyn Shelton reside in rural northeastern Pennsylvania.
